Nuad Boran

When abdomen massage is given instead of abdomen acupuncture, the abdomen massage should preferably be preceded by some Nuad Boran massage techniques, is my opinion. The more I learn about Nuad Boran, and the more I receive such a massage myself, the more excited I get about its outcome on the flow of Qi, blood and lymphe, in the human body, when done appropriately.

Traditional Thai massage does not focus on the abdomen solely but on the whole body. The massage is performed on a receiver sitting or lying on a firm floor bedding and given through cotton clothing. No oil is used. The aim is to counter weakness, imbalances, and blockages in the flow of Qi by activating and thus balancing the Qi flow throughout the body.

Being educated as an acupuncturist and physiotherapist, Nuad Boran fits me well, as the massage holds the pressing of energy line points, and large-scale joint movements/ manipulations. It is done with medium to firm pressure and can feel uncomfortable or painful, the first sessions.

Nuad Boran involves the effective stretching of muscles through the large scale-joint movements. Muscle stretching is very helpful, as our present-day daily activities often include hourlong sitting on a chair, or similar rigid activities. The body functions of people, particularly the elderly, often decline due to a severe lack of movement.

Receiving an appropriate Nuad Boran massage before the abdominal massage session results in a more rewarding outcome of the abdominal massage session; the body becomes prepared by the Nuad Boran techniques, so to speak. After the abdomen massage I also like to apply some Nuad Boran techniques, to finish the treatment.
