Abdomen Massage
There is no substitute for locally applied massage, as it has a strong mechanical and reflex impact on body tissues. The massage giver touches the receiver in a structured way – touching is vital for humans – and manipulates tissue by holding, moving, and pressuring the tissue. Massage stretches and mobilizes tissues that may need separation from other tissues.
The area of the CV-8 acupuncture point, “Shen Que” in Chinese, regulates the flow of “Qi” (life-force energy) and blood to all parts and organs of the body. It is the central governing part of it; it is the core of our being.

Massage is often seen as a relaxing method that fuels a sense of well-being through reducing stress and pain and increasing blood circulation and lymph flow. To lessen the symptoms of a disease, western professionals merely focus on the physical aspects of massage. Massage however does not only affect the physical but also the mental and emotional well-being.
Oriental massage methods eminently aim to treat the total human (physical, mental, emotional) and as I live in Thailand, I am a bit familiar with among other the Chinese massage method named “Qi Nei Zang”, in Thai ‘Chi Nei Tsang’. “Qi” means ‘Life-force energy’, “Nei” means ‘internal’, and “Zang” means ‘transformation’. The phrase Qi Nei Zang indicates that the massage is about toning Life-force energy in the human body. In the West one would probably name it ‘Visceral Massage’ or ‘Abdominal Reflex Massage’.

I may use abdomen massage preceding the abdomen acupuncture to loosen the abdomen tissue and to stimulate the flow of Qi and blood; it is to prepare the abdomen for the acupuncture. I may also use abdomen massage when it seems more appropriate to me to apply massage to the abdomen than acupuncture. When so, I apply the ‘Qi Nei Zang’ massage techniques.
